As noted in the Alma Mater, the School rests upon a hilltop off of Edinger Dr. These hills have many fields, used for athletics, as well as snowshoeing and sledding during the winter. J-D is commonly on the list of Top 1000 schools in the country, and is one of the best districts in sports and academics in the Central New York area.
Notables include former NBA player Danny Schayes (Class of '77), former NFL and Syracuse University Orange players Scott Schwedes (Class of 1983), Robert Drummond (Class of 1985), and LPGA golfer Suzy Whaley (Class of 1984) who in 2003 became the first woman to qualify for a PGA Tour event. Current New York Knicks guard and former Syracuse Orange basketball star Andy Rautins, also graduated from Jamesville-DeWitt Class of 2005. Rautins scored over 1,000 points in his basketball career at JD and lead the team to a 29–0 perfect season including the State Championship and Federations.
The School's Alma Mater is as follows:
High on a Hilltop
Stands our Alma Mater
Strong and Fearlessly
We Will Cherish Thee
For Thy Honor Great and True
Hail to Our Colors Scarlet and White
Long May They Stand for Wisdom and Right
We Will Pledge our Faith to Thee
Our Alma Mater, Our Alma Mater
We Will Cherish Thee
